ISAET Will Go Virtual in October 2021

Monday, May 3, 2021

Glen Ellyn, Ill. — In the last year, things have continually changed in the asphalt emulsion industry, our personal lives, and the world at large. In this ever-changing climate, the Asphalt Emulsion Manufacturers Association (AEMA) and International Bitumen Emulsion Federation (IBEF) are also facing new challenges every day.

The Board of Directors for AEMA and IBEF have reviewed and discussed several options for the 7th International Symposium on Asphalt Emulsion Technology (ISAET) from Oct. 24–27, 2021 in Washington, D.C. During the Boards’ discussions, they considered many different factors, including travel restrictions for both international attendees and speakers from various countries outside of the United States.

After careful consideration of this and other factors, AEMA and IBEF leadership have agreed that ISAET will be held virtually October 26-28, 2021. Both groups feel it is important to share new research and technologies in the asphalt emulsion industry during 2021. More information on ISAET, including registration and schedule, will become available in summer, 2021.

AEMA President Bob Huitt said, “Last year we made the tough decision to postpone the International Symposium on Asphalt Emulsion Technology or ISAET due to the Coronavirus Pandemic. While tremendous strides have been made to end the pandemic, we are not there yet. October seems like a long time away and I certainly hope we can return to a new normal by then, but there are no guarantees. We believe that even by October, the decision to travel internationally will be difficult, therefore an in-person Symposium is just too risky.”

The ISAET was first held in Paris, France, in 1993. The symposium embraces research and practice with respect to manufacturing, use, and performance of asphalt emulsions. The conference provides a forum for discussion of leading research work, encourages the presentation of case studies demonstrating the implementation of research, and fosters discussion on producing better performing and cost-effective asphalt emulsions.

AEMA and IBEF greatly appreciate your continued patience and support during this challenging time.  If you have any questions, please contact AEMA at 630.942.6579.
