2021 Virtual International Symposium on Asphalt Emulsion Technology
Wednesday, November 3, 2021
Thanks to your support and attendance, this year’s Virtual International Symposium on Asphalt Emulsion Technology (ISAET), October 26th-28th, 2021 was a success!
Held virtually over three days, attendees heard from our speakers on a wide variety of topics, delivering outstanding, quality, educational and informative presentations. Tuesday’s theme, Asphalt Emulsion - New Developments, New Designs, and Modeling
included six presentations. First, attendees heard from Etienne Le Boutieller, IBEF, on Asphalt Emulsion Markets Worldwide, followed by a presentation on Bio-Based Emulsifiers for CRS Emulsions, by Claude Giorgi, EIFFAGE.
Attendees also heard from Elie Hajj, University of Nevada, Reno, on the Impact of Emulsion Type on Cold-in-Place Recycled Asphalt Mixtures. Jean-Paul Fort, COLAs Inc., provided various case studies on the Application of
Emulsion Technology to the Development of Cost Efficient Clear Surfacings, followed by a presentation on Uncovering the Science of Penetrating Prime Emulsions, from Sallie Houston and Lise Deves, Arkema-Road Science. The day concluded
with a presentation from Justin Suda, McAsphalt Industries Ltd., on High Float Emulsions Residue: Its Unique Rheology and Microstructure.
Wednesday’s sessions, centered around the theme of Pavement Preservation Techniques - Performance, Design, and New Laboratory Testing Methods, began with a presentation from Benjamin Roujolle, COLAs Inc., on Polymer Modification Impact on
Chip Seal Asphalt Binder Residue Aging and Laboratory Protocols followed by a presentation on Cold-in-Place Recycling Mix Design Research: Sample Size and Conditioning from Edith Arambula-Merkado, Texas A&M Transportation Institute.
Bruno Marcant, Valochem, then presented on the Performance of Grave Emulsions - Mix Design Impacts. The day ended with a presentation from Sadie Casillas, US Army Engineer Research and Development Center, focused
on Exploring the Workability of Asphalt Emulsion Stabilized Cold-in-Place Recycling.
The three-day meeting wrapped up on Thursday with six presentations focused on the Application of Asphalt Emulsion-Based Techniques. The day began with a presentation from Kanjana Yindee, SAMI Bitumen Technologies, on High Performance
Bond Coat Emulsion for High Stressed Pavement Layers. Attendees then heard from Louay Mohammad, Louisiana State University, on the Effects of Tack Coat Material Type and Application Rate on Pavement Performance, followed by a presentation
from Gerald Reinke, MTE Services, Inc, Fog Seal - on Rejuvenating Sealer Aging Performance. Philippe Chifflet, Road Expertise Consulting, shared a presentation on Chip Seal – Development of Highly Modified Emulsion in Austria.
Before the day concluded, attendees had the opportunity to hear from Sabine Le Bec, Eurovia Management, on Combined Layer Coatings - The French Development of the Capeseal Techinque. The symposium concluded with a presentation
on the Design and Evaluation of the Performance of Micro Surfacing Systems Based on Rutting and Cracking Resistance of Mixtures by Huachun Zhai, Idaho Asphalt Supply.
The 2021 ISAET would not have been possible without the support of our generous sponsors; Ergon Asphalt and Emulsions, our Virtual Platform Sponsor, as well as BASF, Idaho Asphalt Supply, KAO, Talley Oil, Inc., and Ultrapave, our General Sponsors.
We hope you join us November 4-6, 2024 at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City in Arlington, Virginia for the 8th Annual ISAET as we continue to move the industry forward.
