AEMA END OF YEAR PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE: 2022
Tuesday, December 6, 2022
We are currently in the middle of planning for the 2023 Annual General Meeting. This will be AEMA’s 50th annual meeting and we will celebrate our 50th anniversary at the AGM in Feb/March. We have been doing some historical research on the origins of AEMA. This has been very interesting. One thing that struck me was that AEMA, in the beginning, was promoting asphalt emulsions over cutbacks. Back in 1973, cutbacks were very prominent for everything emulsions are used for now. 1973 was well known for the OPEC oil embargo. There were long lines at gas stations and folks were worried about driving too far from home for fear they would run out of gas before they could fill up again. And, here the pavement preservation industry was using valuable refined products that could be turned into fuel to chip seal roads. The 70’s also marked the beginning of the EPA and our environmental consciousness. Well, the more things change, the more they stay the same. We have been working hard to develop our EPD’s to help our members compete in an industry that is even more environmentally conscious than ever before. We have also set the environmental bar (as well as AEMA best practices in quality, safety, social responsibility, etc.) for our members with the AEMA excellence awards. These efforts are all part of our strategic planning efforts. I’m confident that these efforts will help support our industry for the next 50 years. Sincerely, Bob Huitt Bob Huitt AEMA President
